National Research Tomsk State University – TSU University Higher Education Complete University Guide

(Russian: is a public research university located in Siberia, Russia. On 28 May 1878, Emperor Alexander II signed a decree establishing the first and only higher education institution in the vast expanse of the Pacific from the Russian Urals – Siberian Imperial University in Tomsk, Russia. TSU is the first Russian university in Asia.
 
TSU was opened in 1888. The first class for the first 72 students began on 1 September 1888 in the Medical Faculty. Classes were offered by seven professors and eight professors assisted by laboratory technicians. Professor Nikolai Gizekas was appointed the first rector of the university.

As of 2017, the National Research Tomsk State University was the third best classical university overall in Russia, which – according to RIA Novosti – outperformed only Moscow State University and Ural Federal University. The National Research Tomsk State University is considered one of the best universities in Russia as well as the BRICS country (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) and the former Soviet-Union.
 
The Research Library:
The Research Library and Tomsk State University were opened in 1888, the same year. The founder of the library was Vasily Florinsky – physician and author, organizer of the University of Tomsk. Both Tomsk State University and the Research Library were rated as a particularly valuable commodity of cultural heritage of the people of the Russian Federation. The library had 3.8 million deposit units in 2016, including more than 124,000 manuscripts and rare books.
