Higher School of Economics (HSE; Russian: «Высшая школа экономики», НИУ ВШЭ), official full name National Research University Higher School of Economics (Russian: Национальный исследовательский университет «Высшая школа экономики») is a state university in Russia.
 
One of Russia’s youngest and largest universities, ranked third in Russia in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings in 2019, 8th in the QS World University Rankings and 10th in the ARWU. It was also the only Russian university established after 1991, making it to both of these rankings.

HSE University of History:
The HSE was founded on 27 November 1992 by Yevgeny Yasin, Yaroslav Kuzminov [ru]; fr], Revolt Antov [ru], Oleg Enannin and Rustam Nurev [ru]. The founders were famous Russian economists who were instrumental in implementing market reforms. University President Alexander Shokhin was the Deputy Prime Minister of Russia for Economy and Finance in 1998, while academic advisor Yevgeny Yasin was one of the leading economic advisors to the Russian government in the late 1980s and 1990s And served as Russia’s Minister of Economic Development between 1994 and 1997. The HSE was established to support the plans of the new Russian reformist government. From the beginning, the HSE was able to benefit from resources under the European Community TACIS program.

Academics:
Programmes and Admission
The HSE offers 60 undergraduate programs, around 20 MBA programs and over 100 master’s programs. These include degrees from HASE and the London School of Economics and notable International College of Economics and Finance BS programs, offering faculty from the Economics MBA program with participation from Erasmus University Rotterdam. The HSE was the first to teach economic history and institutional analysis in Russia. Other courses pioneered by HSE are Econometrics, Micro and Macro-Economics, Economic Sociology and many more. Most of these subjects were started by researchers in Russia who now teach at the HSE. For example, the first Russian course in institutional analysis was developed by HSE rector Yaroslav Kuzminov [RU]; fr].
 
Students
International students can avail government scholarships covering the cost of tuition. Most of the students on the HSE are Russian citizens, with increasing numbers from other countries of the USSR such as Belarus, Kazakhstan and Latvia, as well as other EU countries including the United States and Japan.
